2017 Attractions

The 2017 list will be available closer to our Show (to be held 3rd-5th November 2017), but the 2016 Attractions list below may be of interest to give an indication of what might be expected in 2017.

2016 Attractions

Friday October 28


Showground gates open. Cars to enter via McGhee Street and Sale-Maffra Road Gates. Once all inside parking is taken, no further vehicles will be permitted (including Show Ticket holders).


Showjumping events commence. Sponsored by Ben Bates Agricultural Contractor, Zane House Agricultural Contractor, the Hanley family, GJ McNaughton Pastoral Company, Wellington Livestock and BCS Accountants.


Other Arena Horse events commence. Including Pony Club & the Restricted Ring for Ponies, Galloways & Hacks.

Live judging of the National Carrot Cake contest student sections (Primary, followed by Secondary). Event proudly sponsored by Covino Farm Produce.

Small Farm Animal Pavilion (Morrison Pavilion) open.

Fleece Wool Pavilion open.

Poultry shed open.

Exhibition Pavilions closed while judging takes place (expected to open at approximately midday)


Sideshows open featuring all the usual rides and attractions, running until late evening.

Kids Zone entertainment commences featuring Squeak the Clown Show (shows at 10am, 12.30pm and 2pm), CFA display and activities, face-painting, animal nursery, plus more, ongoing throughout the Show. Proudly sponsored by Gippsland Centre Sale and Caltex, Sale.

Students’ Cook-Off competition commences in the Nicholls Pavilion, proudly sponsored by Tinamba Hotel (major sponsor) and McDonalds Family Restaurant, Sale.

Taste Gippsland stalls open in the MacLachlan Pavilion, proudly sponsored by DMG Financial.


Milking demonstration in the Dairy Cattle area.


Dairy goat milking in the Small Farm Animal Pavilion (Morrison Pavilion).


Exhibition Pavilions open (depending upon completion of judging).


Live judging of the National Carrot Cake contest (Open and Professional sections). Event proudly sponsored by Covino Farm Produce.


Novelty Events for the horses commence on the main arena, leading into the Friday Night Carnival.

Friday Night Carnival


Spectacular night carnival begins.

Featuring Open Stake Race, Open Barrel Race, Junior Barrel Races, Gippsland Open Flag and Barrel Classic, and Shetland Steeplechase. Proudly sponsored by Blastmasters, Glenn’s Gippsland Transport, Sale Campdrafters, Sale Polocrosse Club, M. Kelly and Saddleworld.

Sammy Xuereb and his impressive Monster Truck show featuring new attractions, the Monster Ball and the Jet Car, as well as the Tropical Thunder Monster Truck. Proudly sponsored by Cervus Equipment, Dahlsens, GBG Concrete & Construction and Turnbull Toyota.

Sideshows and rides in full swing.

Saturday October 29


Gates open. Car parking arrangements same as Friday.


Showjumping events commence. Sponsored by Farrugia Fencing & Earthworks, Calcimo Lime & Fertilisers, Stockdale Racing Stables, D. Andrew and F. Stewart.


Other Arena horse events commence. Rings for Australian Stock Horses, Australian Miniature Ponies & Small Shetland Ponies and the Clydesdales.

Exhibition pavilions opens.


Animal judging begins: Beef Cattle (major sponsors James & Rachel Nicholson), Dairy Cattle (including the All Australian Feature Show with major sponsor Irwin Stockfeeds), and Poultry.


Gippsland Vehicle Collection Display (until 3pm)

Sideshows commence.

Small Farm Animal Pavilion open (Morrison Pavilion).

Kidz Zone entertainment commences featuring Squeak the Clown (shows at 10am and 12:30pm), face painting and Animal Nursery.

Children’s craft workshops in the Skeen Pavilion annex commence.

Taste Gippsland stalls operating in the MacLachlan Pavilion.


Pet Parade commences in Kidz Zone. Handlers under 15 years may enter a range of sections, including (among others) best mannered dog, prettiest rabbit, and best kept unusual pet. Handlers of any age may enter three sections– Most Obedient Dog, Dog That Can Do The Best Trick, Pet That Looks Most Like Their Owner. Entry on the day. An ‘Animal Handling Participant Risk Acknowledgement & Waiver’ form must be completed by each handler (or their parent/ guardian where handler is under 18yrs). Pet Parade generously sponsored by Ark Vet.


The ‘Gippsland Mystery Box’ section of the Students’ Cook-Off Contest commences. Proudly sponsored by Tinamba Hotel and Nature’s Cargo.


Registrations open for Tiny Tots, Junior Showgirl, Pre-Teen Showgirl, Miss Teenage Showgirl, Junior Showman and Master Showman quests in Committee Room. Judging to begin at 1:00pm

Arena events continue with the Harness ring, sponsored by Sale Medical Centre.


Official Afternoon Tea in the Committee Room (entry by invitation).


Public viewing at the Exhibition Pavilion closes.


Exhibits may be collected from Exhibition Pavilions. Exhibitors MUST provide their computer printout to collect exhibit and prize money.

Ongoing throughout the Show: Sideshow alley, Kidz Zone entertainment, Arena events, Trade displays plus much more.

Sunday October 31

Horse events only (Exhibition Pavilions, sideshows and trade displays closed). Supreme Ridden Exhibit generously sponsored by Fitzpatrick House.

Public entry is free.
